Star Wars x Crocs
Set Design, Props, & Custom Fabrication
[Tabletop]
The Build
Crocs needed three tabletop sets that emulated different tabletop scenes that were unique to beloved characters like Darth Vader and R2-D2.
The builds included Darth Vader’s ship, a droid shop for R2-D2, and a transmission podium for the full collection.
the challenge
The set had to be designed in modular pieces so it could be transported through a standard-sized doorway and assembled on site.
The structure need to be secure enough to support human weight, yet mobile enough to be set-up and disassembled in less than an hour.
The concept required three unique character doors that could be swapped out within the same frame. Each door had custom cut window shapes, unique knobs, and individual details like wooden panels and a mail slot.
the challenge
Due to delayed partner timelines, I only had two weeks to build all three tabletop sets. Each scene was 4ft x 4ft x 4ft which required immense attention to detail from top to bottom to ensure an interesting backdrop no matter what angle the product was photographed from.
Several of the scenes also needed to include lighting, like the Darth Vader set and the transmission podium.
Each scene was built from scratch with hand-cut details. This brief also required an extensive amount of customized props, like the mechanical rubbish R2-D2’s the droid shop.
