Set DEsign & Custom Props

[Lifestyle]

The Build

Jansport wanted to introduce their first line of travel bags and suitcases in three different environments: beach, European cafe, and mountain getaway.

The brief included building some pieces from scratch, sourcing and customizing props, as well as scene dressing environments with real terrain.

the challenge

The set had to be designed in modular pieces so it could be transported through a standard-sized doorway and assembled on site.

The structure need to be secure enough to support human weight, yet mobile enough to be set-up and disassembled in less than an hour.

The concept required three unique character doors that could be swapped out within the same frame. Each door had custom cut window shapes, unique knobs, and individual details like wooden panels and a mail slot.

Considerations

The set was utilized for video and still photography so each detail needed to be considered for both applications.

The ask was to create authenticity to the environments to show off the practical applications of the products, yet incorporating obviously fake elements for an humorous take on the outdoors.
Some elements were custom built, like the beach boardwalk. While others required extensive scene dressing like trucking in an extensive amount of ground terrain.

I also sourced vintage props, like chairs and coolers, while customizing others with paint and “lived in” texturing.
